How to make Bengali-style Coconut Gur Payesh

Winter season is around the corner and it’s that time of the year, when the cravings for sweet treats increase and what can be better than a no-sugar Bengali-style Coconut Gur Payesh, which can be made at home with some simple kitchen ingredients to satiate the sweet cravings.

​​Ingredients​

1 cup coconut grated, 1 ½ liter milk, ¼ cup almond milk, 3 tbsp chopped raisins, ½ cup fresh cream, 1 cup dates jaggery, water as needed, ½ tsp cardamom powder.

​​Step 1​

To begin with this easy recipe, remove the husk and crack open the coconut and extract the water.

​​Step 2​

Using a grater, grate the coconut. Now, take a pan and add in grated coconut, keep stirring, till the coconut releases oil.

​​Step 3​

Take a pan, add in milk and keep stirring occasionally, so that the milk doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.

​​Step 4​

Meanwhile, take another pan and add in water followed by adding crushed jaggery, keep stirring and make a smooth jaggery syrup.

Once the milk is reduced to half, lower the heat and add in fresh cream, coconut and keep stirring.

Stir the kheer nicely followed by adding the jaggery syrup, nuts and cardamom powder, mix it up nicely and simmer over low heat for 6-7 minutes.

Turn off the heat and let it cool down, serve chilled and garnish with raisins and nuts.
